A First Campout

Only a few weeks back, S, LM and I took off to Eisenhower State Park for an overnight camping adventure. This was the first time S and I had been camping in at least ten years, and the first time LM went camping ever. S dug out our camping equipment, and surprisingly, most of it still worked! We had a few surprises, but all in all, S did a great job of quickly putting together a camp site. We had a fun time. Here are some photos:

LM was a big help in putting up the site with S.

We did not cook over the fire, except for s'mores.
But, of course, we did cook outside!

Mmmm...smores!

Oh - and we had Bearrific with us that weekend.

Bearrific is a stuffed animal that goes home with a different child in LM's class each week, then they can write up a page about their adventures. Of course, LM's adventure page was all about camping!

All things considered, we slept pretty well. Those things were - it was cold, but we were definitely warm; we (all three) slept on a double bed sized mattress that slowly lost air all night; I am pregnant and had to go to the bathroom at 3am. I think LM slept uninterrupted all night!

And, in the morning, I could still make my coffee.
So all was alright with the universe. Ahem.

We cooked breakfast in our electric skillet again...bacon!

And "camping donuts" - canned biscuit dough, deep-fried.
And then dredged through powdered sugar. They were a hit with the boys.

S taught LM a bit about fire safety and how to keep a fire going.

Bearrific enjoyed sitting fireside as well.

After breakfast was all cleaned up and the fire died down a bit, we took a "hike" down to the water.

After our hike, we packed everything back up and headed back home.
Just a quick overnight for our first camping trip.

We'll do it again. It was fun!

See you soon.

Big Blocks and Storytime

Twice in the last couple of weeks, LM and S have headed down to Klyde Warren Park to play with their big Imagination Playground. On the second occasion, Sophia and Aunt Kim went with them. After the blocks, there is a story time the kids can enjoy. I met them in the park at the end of story time and we ate lunch together, which was fun for Mommy.  Here are some photos:

The first day LM and S went, it was overcast when they arrived, but it turned out to be a pretty day later on. What this meant, though, was they had the place to themselves for a while.

Italian Grilled Cheese with the Preschool Set

One day not so long ago, S went up to LM's school and taught them how to make Italian Grilled Cheese. He went to the restaurant supply and gave them all chef hats, which was a big hit. They also enjoyed the process they went through of making the sandwiches. Here are a few photos:
