Our Yellow Belter

LM takes karate at school - each Friday, they pull him out of his regular classroom and he takes this karate class with his good friend Max. Since it happens at school, we rarely get to experience what it's all about. However, it was time for him to test for his yellow belt - and we did that at his instructor's karate studio one afternoon. Here are some photos:

One thing is for certain - LM LOVES this karate class, and his teacher, Mr. David.

The whole time we were there, he was grinning from ear to ear.

And he did NOT want to leave when it was time to go.

We were impressed with the couple of self defense moves LM has already mastered. We knew part of the class was to talk about stranger danger and to teach self defense - but he's really learning it - not only the moves, but what to do if someone approaches him, or is trying to trick him. It was very cool.

Another part of the test - some sort of balanced walk.

They said "step - keeyah" each time, and it was measured.

And a rear kick - definitely his weakest move of the testing bunch.

He passed! He got his belt!

A victory dance was in order.

 And, as you can see, his mother still has trouble getting the "horizon" straight.

It was definitely fun to learn a little about what he does in class, and see him succeed at something he has learned. A proud mama moment.
