The Road to Sochi

 

First of all, Happy Valentine's Day to you and yours. We posted our valentine making earlier this week, and will spend time remembering how blessed we are to have so many family and friends to love, and who love us today. I bought LM a card that makes monkey noises, which he will love, and will drive us crazy all weekend. So, there's that. True love and all. Ha. 

But I digress...today, I thought I would continue getting caught up on what we've done lately and show you some photos from a "road to Sochi" exhibit we checked out at Klyde Warren Park a couple of weekends ago. It's still sort of timely, since the Olympics aren't over yet! Imagine! Here are some photos:

There were all these little exhibits about each different sport,

mostly with interactive activities.

That one, with the green screen - they took LM's photo, and they were supposed to email it to us, with a snow mountain background. Um, we never got the photo. But, he had fun taking the picture anyway.

Since this exhibit, we have seen a lot more "hockey" playing around our house.

He uses one of his kid "golf clubs" and a small ball.

There was one tent set up with Sesame Street stuff - 

not sure how they fit into the Olympic exhibit, but LM liked seeing Elmo for a second.

Chinese New Year

A couple of weekends ago, we went down to the Chinese New Year celebration at the Crow Collection of Asian Art. We arrived just as the festivities were beginning - they went on all day, but we had some other stuff going on later in the day, so we caught the very start. I understand it got really busy later on, so perhaps we were there at the best time! Here are some photos of our time there:

It is the year of the horse...so they had a petting zoo of horses!

They had some very cool souvenir booths.

We did not souvenir, but LM liked checking this out for a moment.

The stage was surrounded with people by the time we followed them over there.

It was a cool event, and I'm glad we went down to check it out.

LM's 2014 Valentines

We worked on LM's Valentines last weekend. A few weeks ago, I printed off some ideas I found on Pinterest and other places on the Internet for "boy valentines", and let him choose which one he liked. He chose "You're a Reel Catch" - a printable I could purchase from this cute store on Etsy and then would be attached to bags of gummy worms. Let's be honest here - choosing the valentine, for LM, was all about what candy he wanted to have. Ahem. Here are some photos of the nice time we had together, assembling the creations.

I found a great deal on these little cello bags at Jo-Ann's - way cheaper than at the party store.

The bags came with twist ties, but I decided to class it up a little with some orange ribbon.

I ended up having three spools of ribbon unused.

I returned them, for a savings of $4.19.

S teased me for saving that big amount with my return.

It was really just about getting it out of my house. ;-)

LM's job was to count out six worms and put them into each bag.

I then strung the cards onto the ribbon and tied them to the bags.

He took his work very seriously. 

Of course, there was some quality control checking along the way...

He seemed thrilled to be part of the activity.

So serious!

I thought they came out well in the end.

He will take them to his classmates on Friday.

We mailed a few to his cousins in Indy, 

and delivered a few to his cousins in Dallas.

We enjoyed doing this craft together, and I think he will take pride in handing them out on Friday, telling his teacher and classmates that he helped make them.

SNOW!

I know most of the nation has experienced more snow this winter than they care to see for many winters to come. But, we had our first dusting (a dusting is all it was) today, and the boy was so excited to watch it come down. Here are a few quick photos from the camera phone as we headed out today - the drive into work was crazy - as people were driving 5 miles an hour for this bit of snow. Yes, there were slick spots, but seriously, it was out of control.

it was about 30 minutes to get there.

So, there's our big snow day. Don't make too much fun of us. ;-)

Playground Fun

I had to bribe LM with the promise of playground time to get him to play nice for those maternity photos we took a week ago yesterday. Since I had the camera with me, I took some photos of their fun. I didn't really have the right lens for "action" though, so they are a little blurry. Nonetheless, you can see he and S had some good time together:
