In the Bleak Midwinter

I know Christmas has passed us by until next year, but these photos were taken before Epiphany, so I think it still counts enough to use one of my favorite carols as the text to go with these photos. Some were taken at my Dad's house, and some at my Mom's, but the snow, it was beautiful, and quiet. And cold. And wonderful:

In the bleak mid-winter
Frosty wind made moan,
Earth stood hard as iron,
Water like a stone;

IMG_1354.jpg

Snow had fallen, snow on snow
Snow on snow,
In the bleak mid-winter
Long ago.

IMG_1356.jpg

Our God, heaven cannot hold Him
Nor earth sustain;
Heaven and earth shall flee away
When He comes to reign;

IMG_1363.jpg

In the bleak mid-winter
A stable-place sufficed
The Lord God Almighty,
Jesus Christ

IMG_1565.jpg

Enough for Him, whom cherubim
Worship night and day,
A breastful of milk
And a mangerful of hay;

IMG_1899.jpg

Enough for Him, whom angels
Fall down before,
The ox and ass and camel
Which adore.

IMG_1579.jpg

Angels and archangels
May have gathered there,
Cherubim and seraphim
Thronged in the air,

IMG_1881.jpg

But only His mother
In her maiden bliss,
Worshipped the Beloved
With a kiss.

IMG_1894.jpg

What can I give Him,
Poor as I am?
If I were a shepherd
I would bring a lamb,

IMG_1903.jpg

If I were a wise man
I would do my part,
et what I can give Him,
Give my heart.

See you soon.

  2. Thanks Amy--beautiful!! Reminds me of where I live on the creek and even though we are IN town, when you are in the back of the house, can't even hear the traffic. Going to try to take more pictures and maybe do some writing. Thanks again!
